It’s frequently said that you only get one chance to make a great first impression. That is certainly true enough. When making a conference call, you have a limited amount of time to introduce yourself and company while ensuring that you make that all-important great first impression. At the heart of your introduction, you need to make sure that you give a solid overview of yourself, yet do so in a concise manner.
Needless to say, it’s a challenge.
I have found that simply answering three simple questions can actually help you to introduce your company without rambling on, wasting precious time, or running the risk that your audience will become bored.
First, what’s the history of your company? You do not need to go into a long and drawn out explanation here, but it is a good opportunity to give your audience a brief idea of about your beginnings and how your company was formed. You might even delve a bit into the idea that inspired the start of your company. Once your audience knows where you came from, they will be in a better position to understand where you are going.
Second, ask yourself what it is that you solve. Regardless of the type of business or industry in which you may be involved, you products or services solve a problem. For instance, when we introduce ourselves on a conference call; we simply state that we help others to communicate. Now, I could go into a lot of technical detail here about RHUB servers and web conferencing, but that’s not really what we do. It’s how we do it. So, instead of telling your audience that you sell widgets, try approaching it from a different angle and instead tell them what you do.
Keep in mind that it is important at this juncture to take care that you do not lose the attention of your audience. You only have a limited amount of time in which to introduce your company and you want to conclude with a great first impression. The goal is to give your audience a brief glimpse of what you and what you can do for them.
Finally, ask what it is that sets your company apart from the competition. When I need to explain what it is that sets our company apart, I always mention our customer service philosophy. The key here is to ensure that your company is memorable. What is it that will help your company to stand out in the minds of the audience?
Today’s business landscape is fiercely competitive. You absolutely must make certain that you stand out from the crowd and help clients to understand the value proposition that you are able to deliver. By providing a succinct overview of your company and how you are able to resolve problems, you will have a much greater opportunity to pique the interest of your audience.
